What is it?

Align is The University of Alabama's Data Governance Program and the institutional framework to formally manage university-enabled data assets. This includes standardizing processes, formalizing data definitions, supporting data stewardship, increasing data integrity, and promoting security and privacy. The goal is to maximize institutional collaboration across departmental boundaries and empower UA to make transformative data-driven decisions.

Mission
• Data Governance is a collaborative practice that sets expectations for organizational behaviors with respect to making decisions which impact data assets.

Purpose
• To develop processes, structures, and analysis to support data stewardship, data quality, security, privacy, integration, access, and compliance.

Vision
• Data governance will ensure that data is treated as an institutional asset and empower data-based decision-making while protecting individual privacy and institutional security.

Goals
• Improved Data-Informed Decision-Making
• Increased data literacy
• Reduction in duplicative data curation
• Enhanced transparency of data accountability and responsibility
• Improved collaboration
